The Heart of India, Bhopal is also known as the City of Lakes. It is the capital of the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh

Founded by Raja Bhoj, it is the 11th-century city which was earlier known by the name Bhojpal, but the present city was established by an Afghan soldier, Dost Mohammed (1707-1740) and his descendants built Bhopal into a beautiful city. It is a fascinating amalgam of scenic beauty and modern urban planning. Despite industrialization, Bhopal has been able to retain its old world charm.

The city inhabits many natural and artificial lakes and has small hills within its boundaries. The City’s geography has in it two major natural lakes namely upper lake and lower lake. Bhopal city is divided into two parts where one part which is near the VIP and lake is old Bhopal (north) and the other is where mainly malls are situated New Bhopal (South).

The climate is moderate in Bhopal. The summers are hot and winters cold. But it does not face extreme weather conditions. It rains moderately during the rainy season. The weather is pleasant throughout the year.

Bhopal is 741 km from Delhi, 789 km from Mumbai, and about 200 km from Indore.
